Anja Oed is a senior lecturer at the ifeas and head of the Jahn Library for African Literatures. She studied English Literature and Linguistics (Anglistik), Musicology, and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Freiburg (Breisgau), obtained a Five-College African Studies Certificate from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and completed her PhD (after prolonged research stays in Nigeria) at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) in London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her research and teaching focus on African literature as well as comics and graphic novels by authors from Africa. Most specifically, she is interested in African comic heroes in the service of education, in short stories, Bildungsromane, childhood autobiographies, African-language literatures, Yor\u00f9b\u00e1-language literature and film adaptations, as well as the literary engagement with images of Africa. Her PhD thesis was entitled \u201cAntelope (Woman) and Buffalo (Woman): Contemporary Literary Transformations of a Topos in Yor\u00f9b\u00e1 Culture\u201c. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
