In anthropological filmmaking, the approach used to collect visual data is essential for ensuring scientific accuracy, as the end cannot justify the means—results are only as reliable as the methodology used to obtain them (Heider, 2006). This course explores how the camera can be used to engage with and represent the complexity of culture. It examines the camera's role not only as a medium for visual storytelling but also as a tool for ethnographic inquiry, data collection, and analysis.Students will watch ethnographic films, participate in group discussions, and analyse various approaches to anthropological filmmaking. Additionally, the course offers an introduction to basic film shooting and editing techniques, enabling students to develop familiarity with the technical aspects of film production.
